SocratiQ is built to collect as little as possible. The short version: there are no accounts, no database, and nothing about a student is stored on our servers.
No accounts, no database
You don’t sign up or log in. We don’t create a profile for you. There is no server-side database of users, students, or their work.
Your sets live in your own browser
The practice sets you build, and the beta access code you enter, are stored in your browser’s localStorage — on your device, not on our servers. Clearing your browser data removes them. We don’t use tracking cookies or third-party analytics.
Student work never reaches our server
When you send a set to a student, the questions and the student’s answers travel inside the link’s URL fragment (the part after #), which browsers do not send to any server. There is no server-side record of a student’s answers or results.
What goes to the AI, and what doesn't
To generate practice questions, the material you paste (sample questions, your notes) is sent to Anthropic’s API. That means you should not paste student names or personal information — just the questions. As a backstop, we strip email addresses and phone numbers from pasted text before sending, but this is best-effort, not a guarantee. Per Anthropic’s API terms, data submitted through the API is not used to train their models.
The third parties involved
Only three, each named: Anthropic (generates the questions — sees the question text and any samples you paste), Desmos (the on-screen calculator, loaded in your browser), and Vercel (hosting). That’s it.
FERPA & COPPA
Because we store no education records and collect no personal information on our servers, SocratiQ is designed to avoid handling the data these laws govern. The tutor supplies the question content; students only pick answers locally in their own browser. This is an honest description of the architecture for a private beta, not a legal certification — schools should have counsel review before any formal use.
